MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A disturbing discovery is catching the attention of Southeast Memphis residents.
Many of them stunned to hear one of their own is facing child exploitation charges.
Memphis Police Officers told WREG a search warrant got them inside of Gary Campbell’s apartment unit at Eden at Watersedge.
Once inside, they found inappropriate pictures of children on his cell phone.
The pictures found appeared to be that of a children ages 5, 7, and 17-years- old.
As Campbell faced the judge for the first time on Wednesday, WREG's Troy Washington went over to ask neighbors about the allegations against him.
“Have you ever seen him?”
The residents we talked to didn’t know Campbell but still had a few choice words about the exploitation allegations.
"It is nasty," said one neighbor. "My kids don’t live here but I am concerned for the kids that are here."
According to the affidavit, there was evidence that he took or passed along the photos.
"It makes me very scared. I hate to see people look at little kids like that."
Terry Webster said the pictures worry him since there are many children who live and play here without a care in the world.
"There be children playing. I can hear it through my window."
Campbell was arrested and charged with aggravated exploitation of a minor.
His bond was set at $75,000.
