DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — Desoto County officials say there is nothing for parents to worry about after rumors circulated stating a student threatened others Thursday.

Many parents with children at Desoto Central High School contacted WREG saying they had heard the student even had a “hit-list.”

Southaven Police said they investigated and did not find any weapons.

No charges were filed.

The school’s administration called the whole thing a “hoax” but did send the following message to parents later in the day.

DeSoto Central High School officials were informed that a student made threatening remarks today. School administrators worked with local law enforcement to ensure that the safety of students and staff was not compromised. There was no lockdown situation, but the student is subject to disciplinary consequences in accordance with the DeSoto County Schools code of discipline. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
