Police: Suspect assaults pregnant ex-girlfriend, shoots her friend

crime scene

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are looking for a suspect whom they said shot a man and then assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Officers were called to the 3200 block of Ridgeway Road around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday regarding a shooting that happened in the 6000 block of Knight Arnold Road.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, told police he went to the Ridgewyck Apartments to bring food to a friend. While there, he said the suspect pulled up next to his car and shot him.

He then fled to Ridgeway and called police.

When the victim returned to the scene of the shooting, he noticed his car, a Dodge Journey, was missing. He said he saw someone driving it into the apartment complex across the street.

The victim was transported to Regional Medical Center but is not in critical condition.

A witness to the shooting told police he heard an argument followed by several gunshots.

He said he saw the victim and another man running from a car in different directions while pulling their pants up. A woman then got out of the vehicle with no clothes on and was arguing with the suspect, the witness said.

Police said the suspect then assaulted that woman, who is the friend the victim said he was bringing food to.

She told police the suspect, who is her ex-boyfriend and who lives with her, punched her in her face and bit her face then threw her to the ground and left.

The victim is 22 weeks pregnant, police said.

She was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition.

Police are investigating.
