MPD to add more body cameras, including those with a wider view

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new deployment schedule for MPD body cameras has been released.

Cameras are already being used in at Crump, Airways and Raines stations.

The projected full deployment date for MPD is November 15.

Deployment dates:

  • Mt. Moriah 9/5 – 9/10
  • Ridgeway   9/12 – 9/17
  • North Main  9/19- 9 /24
  • Old Allen  9/26 – 10/1
  • Tillman 10/3 – 10/8
  • Appling Farms  10/10 – 10/15
  • Traffic  10/17 – 10/22
  • Special Ops/OCU  10/24 – 11/15

As of August 16, the average video per day being recorded by cameras already deployed were 411 which is about 82 hours.

bcMPD will be switching to a different camera in hopes of better coverage.

The new Axon Body 2 has a 140-degree view, as opposed the 75-degree view of current cameras.

The department is also working with its vendor to fix a docking station issue in cars. A patch is being used while a permanent solution is devised.

There are currently eight part-time video analysts, with an additional 10 full-time positions soon to be posted.
