WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. -- A West Memphis family is grieving after their mother was found dead this weekend in her apartment complex.
Devon Brown can't find the words to describe having his mom taken from him.
"She was just a loving person," he said. "She didn't bother nobody and never did."
Carla Brown, 40, was found dead in her apartment on Avalon Street Sunday morning.
"A woman came and told me the police were out there," said neighbor Jacob Bass.
The family told WREG she was beaten and stabbed.
It's an image they said they don't want to think about.
They'd rather remember her as being a generous woman, who enjoyed crocheting and spoiling her family.
"[She was] caring," said Devon. "She didn't ever tell me, 'No.' She always welcomed all my friends to our house."
Family members said police told them there are suspects in the case but haven't arrested anyone.
Police won't confirm that and will only say neighbors heard a commotion Saturday night and found Carla the next morning.
"That's my mama's home, so that's kind of my heartbeat," said Devon.
It's the latest crime scene in a West Memphis neighborhood, and people who live there stated they are sick of it.
"I don't like hearing people get killed all the time," said Bass. "Come on; that's going to take a toll on the next person."
"Everybody should just stop. It's unnecessary," said Devon.
"We're just trying to stay together in all of this, keep each other up," he added.
WREG reached out to the West Memphis Police Department, but they said no one could talk to us until Tuesday.
