MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested Sunday after police said he threatened to kill his wife and then viciously attacked her.

The victim told police she was arguing with her husband, Steve Perry, and it turned physical.

She said Perry drove off, dragging her down the street, and then hit her when she got in the car.

She said he threatened to kill her and started driving faster and more erratically, eventually slamming the car into a tree.

Perry pulled her from the car and slammed her head on the concrete ground, bit her and tried to gouge her eye out, she said.

Witnesses detained Perry until police arrived at the scene, police said.

The victim was transported to Regional Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

Perry was charged with criminal attempted first-degree murder and domestic assault causing bodily harm.
