West Memphis neighbors still shocked following chilling discovery

Tasha Eldridge is trying to get used to the silence and emptiness from this house next door.
it’s a far cry from what she’s used to.

“There’s been a lot of arguing, from the couple that lived there,” said Eldridge.

According to police, things boiled over at some point. On Wednesday someone discovered a body behind the home on Balfour Street. Police arrested Lester Thomas and charged him with first degree murder. Thomas, his kids and another couple live in the house.

“They’ve only been here like two months, but things have been something just wasn’t right.”

Eldridge recalls seeing Thomas outside his home sitting quietly in a chair most days, that same chair was still on his porch today along with toys, neighbors say belonged to the three children who lived in the home and this note concerning the pets the family owned.

“To see something like that happen right across the street, it kind of makes you wonder,” added Eldridge.

Residents describe the neighborhood as a safe place for children to play, they say its not often the neighborhood gets this type of attention.

“They know who did it, so I don’t have any fear for our family or anything. I just feel for the family of the person no longer living. I’m sure there family is hurting right now,” said Brittany Jones.

Today, neighbors are turning their focus from crime to compassion for the person who lost their life.

On Friday, Thomas will face a judge for his first appearance.
