Man gets 30 days for molesting young boy
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 days behind bars for molesting a boy he babysat.
Police say Joseph Presley admitted he molested an 8-year-old boy twice.
Presley was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation.
Judge Calvin Holden originally sentenced Presley to 10 years, but then changed his mind.
Presley will also have to register as a sex offender.
Barbara Brown-Johnson, the Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center, spoke out against the soft sentencing. “That is simply not enough,” she told KSPR-TV33. “That doesn’t deter people from doing this sort of crime against children.”
According to his attorney, Presley was molested as a child.
Dee Wempler went on to say, “Do we really want to take a boy that’s not institutionalized, that has not been in prison before, and put him in prison with some real sex molesters, and some real rapists? So that he can really learn the trade? Is that what we want?”
