Memphis BBQ teams help feed the homeless in Louisiana
BATON ROUGE, La. — Several Memphis-based BBQ competition teams are in Louisiana to help with flood relief.
With 40,000 homes damaged and more than 20,000 people rescued, there is a need for meals.
Operation BBQ Relief, founded in 2011, is answering that call.
The not-for-profit group responds to natural disasters.
Since its founding, members of the group say they have made more than 734,355 meals over 172 days of deployment in 19 states.
Hammond, Louisiana is where the group has set up camp where, according to its Facebook page, more than 17,000 meals were served Wednesday.
They expect the number to increase each day.
