Of course all us Mid-Southerners know Memphis has the best food, but it’s extra sweet to get the nod from someone who knows food better than most: Alton Brown, host of several shows on the Food Network and author of a number of food and cooking books.
On the podcast “The Eater Upsell,” hosted by Helen Rosner and Greg Morabito, Brown proclaimed his love for the Bluff City’s eats.
“I’ve got to say, Memphis, Tennessee: probably my number one food town in the U.S.,” he said in the interview.
Gibson’s Donuts received some high praise. Brown described the doughnut store as it “makes not just the best doughnut in the United States but, as far as I’m concerned, if all the other doughnuts went away and I still had Gibson’s, I’d be okay.”
Brown also gave a shout-out to Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken and Dyer’s Burgers.
“Pretty fine stuff, but just a great, great food town,” he added.
