OXFORD, Miss. — The University of Mississippi Athletic Department received a very sizable donation on Tuesday.
The Associated Press reported Dr. Gerald “Doc” Hollingsworth, a 1953 graduate, gave the university a $25 million donation.
More than $10 million of it was in cash.
It’s the single largest cash gift in the history of Ole Miss Athletics.
Half of the money will go towards renovating the football stadium while the other will go towards scholarships.
In 1998, Hollingsworth gave a $3 million donation, which is the reason the field at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is named after him.
