MEMPHIS, Tenn- A Memphis couple has been indicted on 24 counts of child abuse. They're accused of severely beating their four children, ages 11, eight, five, and as young as two.

According to police 32-year-old Sharrad Sharp is accused of beating the children at an apartment complex on the 1300 block of Clementine Road in south Memphis.

Investigators said the children's mother, Natasha Philmore, was there for the beatings and did nothing to stop it.

The abuse allegedly happened from February 2013 to January 2014.

According to the District Attorney General the children told investigators they were picked up by their necks and thrown across the room, hung upside down by their feet, beaten with a belt, even held underwater in the bathtub.

"It sounds hideous," said one man who knew the couple.

"They took care of their kids, real talk, very surprised," said Timothy Banks, who used to live in the same apartment complex as the family.

A relative of the family told WREG the children are now living with relatives and are doing well. She said they had a nice Christmas and are trying to get their lives back to normal, however, they know when it's time for the trial things will be difficult.
