MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in jail after accidentally shooting his friend in the car at a Mapco Gas Station in Frayser Saturday morning.

Police say 19-year-old Vinell Ayers and Fontaine Craft were playing with a gun while sitting in the back seat of a Ford Explorer.

The gun went off hitting 20-year-old Derrick Glasper, who was sitting in the driver seat.

Glasper was hit in the back and upper chest and died at Regional Medical Center.

Police say they were playing with a gun and pointing it at each other.

In the police report, video surveillance from the store showed Ayers hiding the gun underneath a storage shed in the back of the store.

Ayers was arrested Saturday afternoon and has been charged with reckless homicide, and tampering with or fabricating evidence.

He will be in court on Monday.

I really have nothing to say except for Channel 3 please learn your grammar!!! This is a reflection on the fact you cannot speak properly nor do you proof before you post. God awful journalism.

  • 19 year old with a gun!!

Why does a 19 year old have a gun? Is this the NRA’s fault? An investigation is being done on where the man who killed his wife got his gun, is one being done here also? There are not enough people on earth to investigate where all these people are getting guns. Lets pass some laws saying it is illegal for anyone under 21 to carry a weapon. I am positive that will stop these criminals. Or maybe a basketball court on every corner which is Whartons idiotic solution.

Yes more laws is definitely the answer. No one under 21 drinks alcohol thanks to the very useful law. And of course no one uses meth because it’s illegal. Laws, more laws, that’s what we need!

They did not arrest the GUN as it was deemed an innocent by stander…. Just in case anyone was wondering if it was at fault here….

Assuming he was not already a felon, mental defective, or a user of illegal drugs, Vinell Ayers could legally purchase a handgun at age 18. However if he carries the gun in public while loaded, he is “going armed” a crime in Tennessee. In order to do that legally he needs to obtain a Handgun Carry Permit which he cannot get until after he attains the age of majority (21). Some think a person must be 21 to purchase a handgun but the federal law regarding this applies to federally licensed dealers and not to unlicensed individual transactions which are generally legal in Tennessee. My sympathies to the family of Mr. Glasper, may he rest in peace.

I am struck by the fact that these 2 individuals just mortally wounded their friend, and apparently one’s first reaction was to leave the scene and attempt to hide the gun. You shoot your friend, and that is your priority? sigh
