MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Anthem Education is closing nine of its schools nationwide, including its Memphis campus.

Many students at the Memphis location, Anthem Career College, were studying for certificates in the medical field.

Representatives from other colleges visited with students Thursday to talk about the possibility of continuing their educations elsewhere.

Several Anthem campuses have also closed recently.

Statement from Anthem:

Despite our best efforts, Anthem Education was unable to secure timely Department of Education approval to complete the sale of 9 of its campuses to International Education Corporation (IEC). We are disappointed in this lack of regulatory approval, and as a result have been forced to make the difficult decision to close the schools today. We are continuing to put all of our efforts behind securing teach out and transfer opportunities for our affected students to ensure they may continue pursuing their educational goals, and are hopeful for a positive outcome.

For-profit “colleges” are a racket that bleeds the taxpayer, and rarely are their students truly college material, and rarely do they get jobs where they can “get their skills on”.

    Another legacy of Ronald Reagan.

To say that they are diploma mills would be an understatement. But like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. A friend of mind graduated from one and is now IT manager at a local manufacturing firm in Memphis making 6 figures.
