MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- UPDATE: According to police, the man who shot and killed his two children is dead.
Detectives identified the man as 42-year-old Abel Gomez.
Police said they found Luptia Gomez, 6, and Gustavo Gomez, 24, dead inside the home after Gomez's 11-year-old son told police his father shot his brother and sister.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
A man shot and killed his 6-year-old daughter, who was handicapped and in a wheelchair, and 24-year-old son. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another child escaped from the house, which is in the 4000 block of Chinaberry.
The 42-year-old man then turned the gun on himself. He was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Police were at the house on a domestic disturbance call involving the man and his wife when the shooting happened.
The man opened fire on officers as they tried to get inside. The child who escaped went past them, and when they entered the home, they found the children dead and their father seriously injured.
"As you can imagine, this is the most traumatic day of (the mother's) life to have her family completely destroyed," MPD Director Toney Armstrong said, visibly shaken.
