SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Southaven’s parks and recreation director Michael Mullins is still on the job today, even after a judge found him guilty of groping a woman who works in the same building.
WREG spoke with several people who all said the same thing — they’re shocked that a person this high up in city government still has his job.
“I’m appalled,” said Floyd Ellingburg of Southaven. “You have to ask, are our elected officials telling us everything? “
The woman he inappropriately touched works in the same building. She tells WREG he’s kept his distance since then, but some people say that’s not enough.
Sandra McGee also lives in Southaven.
She said. “I think if he doesn’t know how to behave himself, he doesn’t need this job, and should be sent home.”
Court papers show Mullins apologized for what he did, but that didn’t stop the victim from reporting the incident to Southaven Mayor Darren Musclewhite. WREG reached out to him for comment but has not heard back. We also tried to reach Michael Mullins; he wasn’t in his office.
Sandra McGee says everyone who’s been hiding this for him should be punished too.
Ellingburg says he needs to go.
“If he’s been convicted of this then there is no doubt in my mind he needs to be terminated,” he said.
Mullins will be back in court Wednesday to appeal his conviction.
The victim told News Channel 3 she has not been told about this court date by the prosecutors office, and wants to know why she was left out of the loop.
