Loaded guns found at Memphis airport

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two loaded guns were found at Memphis International Airport on Sunday.

A Lorcin L25 handgun was found at 1 p.m. in a person’s carry-on bag and a Ruger 380 was found at 6:30 p.m. in another passenger’s carry-on bagĀ  at security check point.

Airport Police were notified and took possession of the bags and guns.

Both passengers were arrested on local charges.

While firearms may be taken in checked baggage, provided they are declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and unloaded, they are prohibited in carry-on bags.

Memphis TSA officers have now found 13 firearms this year.

A total of 18 firearms were found at MEM checkpoints in 2013.
