MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Police are on the hunt for a dangerous man they say stalked and severely beat his ex-girlfriend. Detectives have been looking for Tyrone Lewis since Thursday night’s attack. His victim remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Police say inside an abandoned house on Baltic, Tyrone Lewis brutally beat his ex-girlfriend so badly, she lost consciousness. He then took off, leaving her in the home.
“The next thing you know, the police are over there and the ambulance pulled her out, brought her out on the stretcher and everything,” said neighbor Jessica Morrow, who lives across the street.
Morrow says Thursday night, neighbors tried to help Lewis` ex get away from him. The couple argued in the middle of the street.
“They were fighting and arguing and she was like leave me alone, leave me alone! To go that extent, I didn`t expect to see that.” said Morrow.
Police kicked off the weekend searching for Lewis in the Binghamton area.
According to Shelby County Court records, it`s the fourth time, he`s been in accused of attacking this same woman.
In 2013, Lewis pled guilty to beating her at a rooming house on Johnson and Malcomb. He was fined $225.
The year before, Lewis was found guilty for assaulting her in his home. According to the affidavit, she passed out in that attack. Lewis was fined $225.
Neighbors say his punishments for beating her were just slaps on the wrist and believe this latest attack could have been avoided.
“I think that`s really messed up. People treat spousal abuse and boyfriend, girlfriend abuse like it’s nothing. That`s very dangerous to me,” said Morrow.
Anyone who knows where Tyrone Lewis is, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
