MEMPHIS, Tenn. — MLGW and Neighborhood Christian Center are teaming once again to “Play It Cool,” an annual initiative to provide window AC units to low-income seniors and Shelby County residents with disabilities.

Fifty units are still available, so Neighborhood Christian Center will host a screening and application process for them at 785 Jackson Avenue on Tuesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Applicants must be a Shelby County resident, low-income senior 60 years of age or older, can’t have received an AC unit from the program within the last three years, and their home can’t have operable air conditioning.

There is then a field inspection conducted by MLGW to ensure the home meets installation requirements (no bars or storm windows).

To apply, you need the following credentials with you:

  • Tennessee State ID or Drivers License to verify age and address.
  • The most recent pay stub or Social Security Income statement to verify income.
  • If you have a physical disability but do not meet the age requirement, you must bring the proper certification information.
