Rape suspect pleads guilty in middle of trial
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of rape suddenly pleaded guilty as charged, just before the victim was to take the witness stand.
Daramis Sharkey admitted to breaking into the woman’s home and attacking her in September 2011.
His fingerprints and DNA were found at the scene, and the victim later identified him from a photo spread.
The 21-year-old faces 15 to 25 years in prison with no parole for aggravated rape, and three to six years for aggravated burglary.
Sharkey will be sentenced August 8.
He has two other pending rape cases, as well as three pending burglary cases.
