MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis police are telling their officers to be on the lookout for items stolen from a Memphis police officer's car.

A shotgun, PDA and paperwork were stolen early Friday morning.

The theft happened in the 3500 block of Gowan Drive.

It appears someone forced their way into the driver's side of the car.

The officers assigned to the car was on-duty and talking with a complainant when the theft happened.

MPD shotguns are typically left in the car in a locked holder when not in use.

Neighbor Lee Shanks is shocked someone would be bold enough to burglarize an officer’s car and steal a gun, “Somebody could get hurt or end up getting shot and killed. I'm fearing myself while someone is running around with a police weapon and breaking into police cars."

If the media hasn’t been alerted then how do you know this has happened? I don’t doubt it, but it is amazing how you are putting something out there you do not have confirmation on. This is just bad journalism.

Poor Tony Armstrong. his budget doesn’t have money to have extra keys made so they could have them to keep them on their person so they can leave the cruisers locked while they are away from it.
I’m sure the bike cops have someway to lock their vehicle.
If I lived in Memphis I would be happy to donate to a key key fund.
How about voting AC and his thugs out on election day.

It’s because we can listen to police talk with each other and hear the alerts but police have not answered our inquiries for more details.

Since none of the existing 10s of thousands of gun laws prevented this, we must ask our legislators to create yet another law! Surely that will stop the evil doers in their tracks.
