Shotgun stolen from MPD car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are telling their officers to be on the lookout for items stolen from a Memphis police officer’s car.

A shotgun, PDA and paperwork were stolen early Friday morning.

The theft happened in the 3500 block of Gowan Drive.

It appears someone forced their way into the driver’s side of the car.

The officers assigned to the car was on-duty and talking with a complainant when the theft happened.

MPD shotguns are typically left in the car in a locked holder when not in use.

Neighbor Lee Shanks is shocked someone would be bold enough to burglarize an officer’s car and steal a gun, “Somebody could get hurt or end up getting shot and killed. I’m fearing myself while someone is running around with a police weapon and breaking into police cars.”
