50 years for man convicted of raping young relatives

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –James Hawkins Sr. has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for raping two young family members.

In 2011, Hawkins Jr. was convicted of brutally killing his girlfriend and mother of his children, Charlene Gaither, and making one daughter help dispose of the body.

It was during that murder trial allegations of several child rapes were made against his father and charges were filed.

In April, Hawkins Sr. was convicted of the two rape counts.

The two victims said he started raping them as young as six and it continued until 2010.

There are three more child rape cases pending against Hawkins Sr. and one against Hawkins Jr.
