MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police investigated two shootings overnight in Cordova.
One person was taken to the hospital after being wounded in a drive-by shooting at Houston Levee and Macon and another man was found shot to death in the 500 block of South Sanga.
The two shootings are not related, but happened within miles of each other.
Police said at around 11 p.m. they found a man in the front yard of house on Sanga.
People who live on that street said earlier in the night, 33-year-old Jeffrey Roth got into a fight with a neighbor and apparently went back to that neighbor’s house and was shot.
Police said after reviewing the evidence, the District Attorney chose not to charge the 28-year-old shooter.
At 12:30 a.m. Shelby County deputies responded to the drive-by shooting on North Houston Levee.
The victim told deputies he was driving near Houston Levee and Macon when someone from another car started shooting.
He was able to drive to a McDonalds nearby and get help.
“Wow, that’s not good,” said Louis Barajas.
People who live just around the corner said it was the last thing they wanted to hear.
“Because I don’t want to move anymore. I moved here from another place to here because I thought it was safer,” said Barajas.
We looked at crime statistics for past years and saw that neither neighborhood were hot spots for crime.
Most of the crimes reported were thefts, burglaries and simple assaults.
Neighbors are hoping the recent incidents aren’t a sign of things to come.
“It’s discouraging to know wherever I go it follows,” said Richard Robison.
The sheriff’s office has not said if there are any suspects in the drive-by shooting.
