MEMPHIS, Tenn.-- A Memphis man is charged with attacking his own sister and using her baby as a human shield.

Darren Johnson is charged with domestic assault, assault, and resisting arrest.

Police said he was yelling at Astaria Jones' children Sunday night. When Jones tried to stop him, police said Johnson attacked her.

Neighbor Cameron Tuddle saw the whole thing.

"I just saw him hit her," he said.

The report shows Johnson slammed Jones to the ground and punched her in the face.

Jones got away and called 911, but police said Johnson grabbed her 1-year-old son and took off running.

When officers caught up with him, they say he stripped off his shirt, flexed at them, and then tried using the baby as a shield.

Another neighbor, Trevia Montgomery, said it scares her to hear about that.

"I have kids and if he's that violent and taking people's kids, I'm glad he's off the streets," she said.

Jones showed up and got the baby away from her brother.

Police said Johnson fought them, but after a brief struggle, they arrested him.

His bond was set at $10,000. He is due in court Tuesday.
