Mississippi Candidates deny campaign ads are getting “ugly”

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — It’s being called one of the ugliest campaigns in the country – a tea party candidate versus an encumbant GOP – and they’re making their final rounds like places to the Olive Branch City Hall because the primary is just a few days away.

Odds are you’ve seen the ads.

Tea Party Candidate Chris McDaniel and Republican Thad Cochran are both running attack ads in the race for Mississippi Senator.

But Cochran says he doesn’t think it’s been an ugly race at all.

“I don’t think it’s all that bad. From my point of view we’ve been talking about the issues,” said Cochran.

Those issues have been pushed aside recently.

A man who supports McDaniel was arrested for taking illegal pictures of Cochran’s ailing wife in a nursing home.

McDaniel says, ” Our campaign had nothing to do with that what so ever.”

Both say they have a plan to lead Mississippi in the right direction.

But if you are hoping to see the two candidates debate before voting day, you’re out of luck.

Cochran said, “I’m not running to be a member of the debate team, I’m a candidate for the U.S. Senate.  I think [a debate] would be rated pretty low on the charts for public appeal.”

Some criticize these candidates they say they never come to North Mississippi, but Friday Sen. Cochran made the rounds, including stopping at engineering firm and topping it off with a banquet with the friends of the NRA.

McDaniel will be in DeSoto County on Monday.
