SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — The man shot and killed by a Southaven police officer Wednesday has been identified as 20-year-old Jeremy Vann of Memphis.

Undercover officers were meeting with a suspected drug dealer in the Big Lots parking lot Wednesday morning.

When officers moved in to make an arrest, they say Vann took off, running over an officer.

That officer fired his gun, and so did at least one other officer.

Vann was hit and died on the way to the hospital.

Police arrested another suspect in the car, 20-year-old Teon Katchens, also of Memphis.

Katchen is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to commit a felony crime and child abuse.

The child abuse charge stems from the fact a small child was found in the car.

That child is now in the care of the Department of Human Services.
