MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis police now have a sketch of a man wanted for a rape in South Memphis.

The attack happened May 3rd in an abandoned, wooded lot near Willie Mitchell and Olive.

Neighbors said it is a familiar face, and it's possible he lives in the area.

"I have seen him a couple of times before, even after the incident. I didn't know that was who the guy was," said Gabby King, who lives near the crime scene and the victim. "I see that guy all the time walking up and down the street. If he is not on this street, he's over there  on Trigg and Wellington at the little corner store buying burgers and stuff."

The man in the sketch is wanted for raping and brutally attacking a 34-year-old woman.

Police said her screams were so loud, they woke people up. They said she was injured so badly, she couldn't speak.

Neighbors said the suspect jammed a stick down her throat to try to keep her quiet and threatened to kill her.

The victim was taken to the hospital. She has since been released.

Officers said they spotted the suspect near the scene shortly after it happened, but he got away.

They are hoping the sketch leads to an arrest.
