(Cordova, TN) A child's life was put in danger after his father took off running from police.

Police said the child was left alone in a car and exposed to drugs.

Darrel King was locked up on several counts of child abuse and drug charges.

Edney Ridge Drive in Cordova was quiet on Friday, but 24 hours ago, the activity on the street told a different story.

Police lights and sirens filled the block trying to arrest King on a warrant.

"I'm shocked actually," Effie Du said.

King's next-door neighbor was shocked because he ran away from police by jumping over fences and running through back yards.

His 4-year-old son, who is known to have seizures due to a medical condition, was left in the backseat of the car.

"I know their kids. They play basketball outside in the backyard and they seem to have fun," Du said.

According to police, the little boy was not left in the car alone - there were a lot of drugs.

Police found more than 100 Xanax pills, two bottles of Oxycodone, and several grams of cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana.

"This neighborhood is usually has been a really good one and that's not what I expected," Du said.

The small child was rushed to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital as a precaution.

The Department of Child Services is investigating to make sure the child is okay.

As for King, he was found hiding under a patio on Beechman Drive.

He admitted selling drugs for nearly a decade, police said.

King is expected in court on Monday.

“Police found more than 100 Xanax pills, two bottles of Oxycodone, and several grams of cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana.”

Sheesh, this is worth sending 15+ MPD out for a warrant? Closing a street down with two cars on the north/south to block? Yeah dude ran when he shouldn’t have run and he got bit by the dogs. 10+ MPD cars flooding a quiet hood, well if you need all those cops to find one dude this is a waste of tax money. You got to call in the U.S. Marshals god bless them! And this city is being a bunk hole.

My uncle is not a bad dad. The news put so much more then what really happened. My cpusin was not left alone in the car and my uncle never admitted to selling drugs. I guess the news need a way to keep there jobs. #lies

This is not a terrible guy. This was a man caught between a rock and a hard place. A great guy and people will disagree because drugs were involved but I personally know he was a man with good character. I feel a sense of sorrow for him and his family. May God be with them during this time.
