(WREG-TV) Four flights into Memphis from Chicago were affected by reports of fire and smoke at the Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) center in Elgin, WGN reports.

A Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority spokesperson tells us two United flights and two American flights were affected.

Hundreds of flights at both O’Hare and Midway were cancelled or delayed after the reports of fire and smoke came in at about 11:30 a.m.

The TRACON center was evacuated, and investigators later determined a faulty motor in the HVAC system created the smoke.

Employees were allowed back into the building shortly before 1 p.m.
