(Southaven) People are in shock that someone in their own neighborhood could be behind the grisly murder of an elderly Southaven man.
Karl Walls is in jail, charged with beating his 72-year-old neighbor, Jonny Moore, to death and stealing his truck.
"Johnny was a good guy," That's how Moore's neighbor, Al Hickey, remembers him.
A puddle of blood was found in Moore's car port Tuesday, and his vehicle was gone.
With some help, police were able to find it and Karl Walls.
Lt. Mark Little with the Southaven Police Department told us, "We were contacted that the vehicle in question that we put out to the public was located in Yalobusha County by the sheriff's office."
Friends and family of Moore have already set up a memorial in his front yard.
WREG learned Walls lived less than a block away from Moore.
Those who knew him said, given his long criminal history, they were not surprised to find out he is behind bars again.
"I've seen the police and the sheriff's deputies come over here regularly about once every month and talk to him for 15 or 20 minutes or so," Hickey said.
Southaven Police confirm Walls has a criminal history, but have not said what he has been arrested for previously.
"When you interview and talk to people in the neighborhood, I think everybody knew of this gentleman," Lt. Little said.
Walls will make an initial appearance in the Southaven Municipal Court on Wednesday.
