(Memphis) A man who simply wanted a taco became the victim of a beating, kidnapping and carjacking.

The attack started at the Taco Bell in the 1600 block of Poplar around 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police say Arnekio Jackson ambushed a man waiting in the drive thru.

They say he opened the car door, put a gun to the driver's head, beat him with the barrel of the gun and demanded money.

“It’s surprising to hear that, but at 3 in the morning, who knows what happens at 3 in the morning,” said nearby business owner, Brad Larson.

Detectives say when the man told Jackson he didn’t have any cash, Jackson forced the man to drive to a walk-up Cadence Bank ATM on Union.

The victim was able to break free and run home, but only after he threw about $300 back into the car.

The victim said Jackson drove off.

Across the street from the Taco Bell, Larson told us in his 16 years here, he's never heard anything like that happening.

“Luckily we've had no problems ever, it’s a pretty well-lit corner,” said Larson.

Police say they were able to track down Jackson and the man's car because he left his iPhone in the back seat.
