(Memphis) Elvis fans and people who live in Whitehaven have a reason to rock and roll pretty soon.
When you think about Memphis, it doesn't get much bigger than Graceland, and a multimillion dollar hotel may be coming to Elvis Presley Boulevard.
Elvis fans have a special place in their hearts for the King.
"I'm a big fan of Elvis Presley and I always wanted to go there so now I'm so happy," Jenny Moran said.
For many, a visit to Graceland is a dream come true.
The attraction is getting decked out with a $70 million addition.
" They filed their petition," Memphis City Councilman Harold Collins said.
Elvis Presley Enterprises is sparing no expense.
WREG pulled the planned layout from the Department of Planning and Development.
"A 450-room hotel, a four-star luxury restaurant, a sports bar, a meeting and planning spaces. So we're excited about that," Collins explained.
The plans also have room for future expansion.
"Which would only enhance the community that's doing some good work out there now," Collins said.
The plans are only in the early stages and have to go through an intense approval process.
The process puts the community first.
"What we'll do is have a community wide meeting on May 15th at 7 p.m. at the car museum on Graceland's campus," Collins said.
Organizers will tell people who attend the meeting the overall plan and answer questions.
However, for fans of the King of Rock and Roll, the hotel is a no-brainer.
"I'm a big fan and it would be great to feel Elvis a bit more," Moran said.
City leaders said the "Guesthouse at Graceland" will only add the enhancements the city is making in Whitehaven.
