(WREG-TV) The SS Sultana wrecked April 27, 1865, almost in-front of Memphis.

The Mississippi River side-wheel steamboat exploded.

It is under 30 feet of soybean field across from Mud Island.

More than 1800 people died when it went down making it the worst Maritime disaster in US History.
