(Memphis) Six Memphis women are facing federal charges for filing more than 800 fake federal tax returns, and cashing in on more than $1.3 million dollars.
Some of their victims were Memphis High School students.
IRS Investigators and US Attorney's say 35-year-old Melissa Harris, and 27-year-old Erin Crutcher stole the victim's information, social security numbers and birth dates.
Then 40-year-old Angela Jacocks, 28-year-old Breunca Sutton, 38-year-old Jennifer Freeman and 34-year-old Vivian Sholer used the information to file the bogus reports in 2010 and 2011, according to court papers.
This took place between August 6, 2010 and July 27, 2011.
All six women are facing at least eight years in prison if convicted, Melissa Harris faces the most serious charges, and could be locked up for more than 20 years.
The US Attorney's office announced the charges Monday, calling the crimes an insult to everyone who legally pay their taxes.
