(Memphis) As we reported Monday, service on the MATA Madison Avenue trolley line has been suspended.

It appears that suspension may last longer than expected.

Buses are running in place of the trolleys.

Other trolley lines are not affected.

State inspectors did a routine inspection after a Monday fire on trolley #553, built in 1923, caught fire just before 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

MATA administrators are considering bringing in a trolley expert to look at the trolleys and the Madison Avenue tracks.

This is the second fire on the Madison Avenue line since November of 2013.

On November 4, 2013 seven people were treated when trolley #452 caught fire near Madison and I-240.

At the time, MATA told us, “The trolley operator and passengers confirmed hearing a loud pop in the trolley operator’s area of the trolley and smoke entered the trolley immediately.”
