(Yazoo City, MS) A 9-year-old girl was apparently swept away by flash flood waters in Yazoo County, MS Sunday night..
The girl was reportedly playing in her backyard when she was swept away.
WJTV reports someone reported seeing a body in the canal behind the child’s house on 8th street and Lee avenue.
Yazoo City received 4 to 5 inches of rain in a short period, Yazoo County Emergency Management Director Joey Ward said.
Volunteers as well as law enforcement are searching for the child and calling it a recovery mission.
The 9-year-old was last seen wearing a pink dress and red tennis shoes.
Flash flood watches or warnings were in effect Monday morning for parts of southeastern Mississippi, much of Alabama, a large portion of Georgia and the northwestern Florida panhandle.
