(Memphis) A new art program called “South Main Mosaic” will display up to ten pieces of art in the South Main neighborhood.
The Downtown Memphis Commission calls South Main “a mosaic of original art, architecture, characters, business, and creativity,” and says the program will celebrate the neighborhood’s originality.
Artists within 250 miles of Memphis are invited to submit their ideas for artwork (the deadline for submissions is April 25th at 4 p.m.). Click here to learn more.
The chosen pieces will be featured in South Main from Oct. 3, 2014, through October 2015.
More info from the DMC:
A total budget of $47,000 will be allocated for the production of the pieces (including artist fees), which will be selected by a committee charged with curating pieces that make best use of the budget. Artwork that is interactive, kinetic, or interpretive of the history of the district or site is encouraged. Proposed artwork should be suitable for outdoor display and have a life expectancy of at least 18 months. Existing artwork is eligible for consideration.
Once selected pieces are installed on October 3, a panel of judges will present the artist with the most creative display with a check for an additional $1,000.
