SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 2013-14 season is not yet complete, but Tiger Nation already has one eye on 2014-15 with Wednesday’s announcement that Memphis is scheduled to meet Wichita State Nov. 18, 2014. The contest, set to air nationally on ESPN, will be played on Heritage Court at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
The November trip to South Dakota will be the first in the program’s history. Tickets for the game will go on sale this summer. A game time has yet to be determined.
The meeting will be the 20th between Memphis and Wichita State, but the first since the 1982-83 season. The Tigers hold a narrow 10-9 lead in the series. Eleven of the 19 previous match-ups came in the late 1960s through the mid-1970s when Memphis and Wichita State both were Missouri Valley Conference members.
This is the second-straight season the Sanford Pentagon is hosting an NCAA Division I match-up. Last November, Wisconsin defeated St. John’s 86-75.
The cornerstone of the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls, S.D., is the Sanford Pentagon, a 160,000-square-foot, five-sided facility featuring nine basketball courts, including the 1950s/1960s-inspired Heritage Court. The venue combines state-of-the-art amenities — including high-definition video boards and executive suites — with period-specific finishes that are a nod to the nostalgic days of basketball.
The 3,200-seat Pentagon is home to Sanford POWER Basketball Academy, Sanford POWER Volleyball Academy, the NBA D-League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s and Men’s Basketball tournaments and the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
