(Tunica, MS) A Tunica casino takes a gamble by opening a smoke-free gaming room, concert and convention area on the second floor.
Those at the Gold Strike feel lucky and are willing to take the risk.
In the past, other casinos tried a smoke-free area, but had bad luck.
"I think every casino should open and have a smoke-free facility for those of us who don't smoke and smoke bothers us," said Annette Morse.
She says she hit the jackpot at Gold Strike.
Gold Strike is not the first to ban smoking in certain parts of a casino building.
In the last decade, the Convention and Visitor's Bureau said a couple other casinos gave it a shot, but it didn't work.
Casino Operations Manager Philip Hunter said this time it's different, because so many customers begged for it to happen, "This was probably the number one request we heard from them. we had an opportunity to use an area upstairs and dedicate it to those requests, and I think we've created a really nice environment for them."
Only time, and the amount of money spent, will tell if this was a smart gamble.
