WREG Transmitter Affected By Power Outage

Test pattern

(WREG-TV) WREG was off the air for several hours Sunday night after taking a power hit at our transmitter.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, CBS will not allow us to re-air any of the programming that was missed, although you can find them on

“No backup power?” Unfortunately the generator requirements for broadcast tower are likely pretty high and “Broadcast” over-the-air customers are getting fewer. But the best picture is the uncompressed signal, and the cost for choices on cable/satellite is far too much for my thinking.

Some years ago I had to pack up and ship a component of the FOX13 Doppler radar after it took a direct lightning strike. Lightning ain’t nothing to f….with. Fiberglas insulation surrounding the radiating area had melted and fused all to heck. My hands were itchy for a week! Hope you guys get the Tx back working soon.

This is a constant problem with WREG even when there are no storms, why haven’t they addressed the issue by now so that we don’t have these problems? If the other stations can do it then why can’t this station?
