(WREG-TV) General Motors is expanding a recall announced two weeks ago which now includes 1.6 million vehicles.
GM says faulty ignition switches could turn the car off at random causing drivers to lose power brakes and steering and disabling the airbags.
The problem has been linked to 31 crashes and a handful of deaths.
The new recall applies to 2003 through 2007 model Saturn Ions as well as 2006 and 2007 model Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac Solsitices and Saturn Sky’s.
The recall previously included 2005 through 2007 model Chevy Cobats and Pontiac G-5’s.
Dealers will make repairs for free, but parts may not be immediately available.
