(Memphis) A man police thought was a robbery victim quickly turned into a suspect when police realized he was driving a stolen car.
Investigators say the 2014 Kia Forte Terrance Scott told police he was in, when he and another man were robbed, was taken during a carjacking in Frayser Saturday night.
William Davis told police he was filling up his Kia Forte at the Best Gas Express on Watkins when he was forced out of his car by a man who appeared to have a gun.
Police say Scott admitted to going for a joy ride in the Kia, but said someone gave him the car.
Customers at the gas station where the car was stolen aren’t buying it and said when it comes to the world’s dumbest criminals this takes first prize.
“You called police and you are sitting in a stolen car? That’s crazy,” said Jame Pryor.
Police said there were two people involved in the carjacking at the Best Gas Express and another man was with Scott when he was arrested, but so far Scott is the only one who has been charged.
Right now, he is only facing a charged of theft.
