Samsel Out at Olive Branch

Olive Branch, MS– After 8 years and over 80 wins, including a perfect 15-0 season and the 2011 6A State Championship, Scott Samsel is out as Head Coach of the Conquistadors.

Samsel was asked to step down by new OB Principal Allyson Killough on Friday, saying she wanted to take the football program in a different direction.  Jeremy Toungett, 35 and a 4-year assistant with the ‘Quistors under Samsel, was named OB’s new Head Coach.

This was a very wise move by Allyson Killough. Samsel is a win by any means coach and leading his players in the wrong direction. I personally don’t think he set the right example for them.

Killough has made a big mistake firing Coach Samsel, however she is only the puppet of superintendent Kuykendall. The history of Kuykendall’s dislike for Olive Branch and Olive Branch school success is long. His personal vendetta is more important to him and his followers than the success of a school in his district. This vendetta is not only for athletics, it appears to be for the entire school. Recently Kuykendall took away, from Olive Branch, the best principal in DeSoto County (Mr. Brigance) and hid him away in the county office.
I have known Coach Samsel quite well for almost 50 years and believe in him and his work at Olive Branch. He has not only been a great coach but also a great mentor of young men just as his mentor, Leslie Pool. I am sickened by this whole situation.
I don’t think Killough will be supported by the OB students, school staff or community but that won’t matter because Kuykendall will move her to a position in the county office, as he has done in the past.

And then who will be principal? Think about who that could be. It’ll be obvious.

There has to be more to this story. What does “go in a different direction mean”? This program has been at the top for many years now. Why have both, the former principal, and now the head football coach, been removed from their positions and moved to completely unrelated positions within the school system and who is responsible for these decisions. How can a principal, who has only been in place for a few short weeks, discern the need to remove this head coach from his job? I would like to see media outlets get to the bottom of everything going on within the county school system.

THERE IS ALOT MORE TO THIS STORY. WHY WOULD SOMEONE COME IN AND FIRE A WINNING COACH LIKE THAT. ITS ALL ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW IN DESOTO COUNTY. TIME FOR A CLEANING OF THE HOUSE AT THE COUNTY OFFICE.

What did Coach Samsel do to get fired. Allyson Killough should give more details, than she wanted to go a different route.

Come on everybody stop acting slow. We all know all the illegal recruiting that has been going on at this school for years. Now everybody is acting like they are stuck on stupid. Look into the why every player stays in the vineyard apartments!!! Really… I applaud this principle for being the only female to stand up to all the wrong with this schools athletic program.

Illegal recruiting at this school . . . Please. Multichampion South Panola has parents driving an hour out of the district to pick up players for school and has been illegal for years winning championships. In fact, name for me a prominent winning school that has not done something shady to pull players to win . . . righhht. You stop being naive McClellon.
