(Shelby County) A body was found in a wooded area near Millington.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department said a couple of hunters found the body deep in the woods near a 20-foot ditch off Navy and Martin Road.
Deputies said the body has been there for a month, and could be 73-year-old Billy Joe Hardy who disappeared in October. He suffers from Alzheimer's.
"It is going to be another two days before we find out if it is him," said Bianca Sweeten, the daughter of Hardy. "If it is, OK, now we can have a funeral, some closure, and we can go to the cemetery."
Deputies said they covered the area in their search for Hardy.
"Very, very thick brush is the best way to describe it. It is hard to get back there," said Lt. Kevin Helms.
Medical examiners will first look to see if the body is Hardy. That could take 24 to 48 hours.
