(WREG-TV) The Shelby County branch of Books from Birth got a big donation Monday.

Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell presented the group with a $10,000 check.

The money was raised at the mayor’s charitable golf tournament held in September.

Books from Birth helps get children ready for kindergarten by giving books to children from the time they’re born to 5 years old.

“Right now we are putting books in the hands of about 36,000 children across Shelby County and that list grows each month.”

Books from Birth was launched in Shelby County in 2005.

Since then, 74,000 families have enrolled and more than a thousand families are added each month.

My two boys are signed up. When I had my youngest son and signed him up my oldest stopped receiving books. My youngest son has received a book since he was 5 months old. He has only gotten 2 books from this program. They need to be truthful they aren’t helping like they say they are.

Please let us know your address so we can fix this. The USPS does not let us know when you move and also does not forward books, so we would not know you are not getting the books. We can be reached at or (901) 820-4501. We have almost every book you would have missed here in our office to just pick up as well.
