Man Charged With Statutory Rape Of Three Runaway Teens
(Memphis) A 34-year-old Memphis man is behind bars accused of raping three runaway teens who moved into his apartment.
Police say they got a tip the 15-year-old runaway was at Mario Hampton’s Whitehaven apartment.
Officers say when they got there they found the 15-year-old as well as two sisters ages 16 and 17.
They say Hampton admitted to having sex with the girls for money and said one of the girls may have recorded it on her cell phone.
Hampton’s family members, though, say he may be the one who was taken advantage of.
They say Hampton only has the mental capacity of a teenager himself and thought the girls were much older.
“One girl presented herself as 18 and another presented her age as 19,” Said Elbert Warren, Hampton’s brother.
Hampton’s brother says if his brother knew the girls were all underage he wouldn’t have allowed them into his home.
Hampton is facing three counts of aggravated statutory rape and being held on $50,000 bond.
