(WREG-TV) Shelby County deputies have a suspect in custody for a deadly shooting late Thursday in southeast Shelby County.
40-year-old Xavier Becton is charged with second degree murder for the death of his ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Tierria Simms.
According to an affidavit, Becton told deputies that he was arguing with Simms at the Preserve at Southwind Apartments around 8:30 Thursday night.
Becton said the two struggled and his gun went off, hitting Simms.
When deputies arrived, Simms was lying on the sidewalk. She died a short time later.
Becton surrendered to deputies at a restaurant a few blocks away on Winchester Road.
Becton is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Monday.
