(Cordova, TN) A murderer is on the loose, and Shelby County deputies need your help figuring out who it may be.
Deputies are investigating a shooting that killed a teenager and put a quiet Cordova neighborhood on edge.
A huge puddle of blood marks where 19-year-old Martez Jackson took his last breath.
Deputies say the teen was shot in the chest in front of his home at the Camden Grove apartments off Houston Levee.
“I heard someone shout out, ‘Oh my God, he's not breathing,” one neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said.
“I heard a pop, like a gunshot, and what sounded like a car speeding off,” the neighbor added.
The shooting happened around 9 Tuesday night.
Deputies say they’re having a hard time finding eye witnesses.
The blaring sound of the shot is enough to keep neighbors in fear Wednesday.
“Complete shock. It's been so quiet here. It's one of the reasons I chose to live here. It just hits home when it’s right down the street,” said the neighbor.
Shaunaree Mayo lives on the other side of the complex.
Wednesday morning, she made sure she watched her son as he waited at the bus stop and told him a special message.
“Pay attention to your surroundings. If somebody approaches you, you don’t know, just walk away,” said Mayo.
It’s also forcing more people to re-think the safety of a community they consider calm and quiet.
“I don’t know if I'm ready to pack up and move today, buy I'll definitely think long and hard before I renew a lease,” said the neighbor.
