(WREG-TV) November is Diabetes Awareness Month, which is when the YMCA will launch its Diabetes Prevention Program.
According to the Y, “Diabetes is one of the costliest diseases both economically and socially. 1 in 3 Americans (79 million people) has prediabetes, but only 11 percent of those with prediabetes know they have it.”
Before the program launches, the Y will have free health screenings for people 18 years and older so they can learn if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
You do not have to be a member of the Y to participate.
Screening includes: blood pressure, blood sugar, height, weight, waist circumference, and BMI.
WHO: All adults in the community (18 and up)
