St. Louis, MO-Cardinals rightfielder Carlos Beltran gave the Pittsburgh Pirates all the trouble they could handle and more in game one of their National League Division Series.

Beltran’s towering three-run homer ignited a seven-run third inning Thursday.  Cards starter Adam Wainwright pitched seven strong innings for St. Louis as the Cards opened with a 9-1 victory in game one.

The first eight Cardinals reached safely in the third to chase Pirates starter A.J. Burnett.

A sellout crowd at Busch Stadium was able to relax and enjoy the playoff game for the NL Central champions, who are making their third straight trip to the playoffs.

The Cardinals send Lance Lynn to the mound for Friday’s game two to face Pittsburgh’s Gerrit Cole.
